Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 met on <\/strong>May 2nd, 2023<\/strong>. Commander Gene McShane called the meeting to order at <\/strong>6:40 pm<\/strong>. There were <\/strong>31 <\/strong>members<\/strong> present.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaplain Kim Smith offered the opening prayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

READING OF THE MINUTES: Adjutant Steve Metheny read minutes from the April 4<\/strong>th<\/strong><\/sup>, 2023, meeting and they were approved as read.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FINANCIAL REPORT: Finance Officer Donny Walters submitted the financial report, and it was made part of these minutes by attachment.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW MEMBER OR GUEST: None<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guest Speaker: Lt Col. Lance Jackson ROTC Commander at the Spring Hill High School presented a slideshow of the ROTC happenings at the High School<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MEMBERSHIP: Adjutant Steven Metheny gave the membership report. Post 19 membership quota for 2023 is 432, 372 paid, still need 60. Post stands at 86%.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SICK CALL:<\/strong>Post members on sick call are <\/strong>Don Richardson, Robert P. Norman, Jimmy Hill, William T. Wall,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW BUSINESS: Michael Nuelander made a motion to make a $1,000 scholarship available for the ROTC Program at the Spring Hill High School. Motion was seconded and approved by an unanimous vote.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

GOOD FOR THE LEGION: Eddie Ables presented a check for the amount of $2144.00 from the Maury County Breakfast Rotary Club for the Post\u2019s cooperation in the Mule Day Auctioneer\u2019s contest.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael Nuelander gave an update on the ROTC awards and Scholarships given out to the Columbia & Spring Hill High Schools.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commander McShane reported that himself, Terry Locke and Darrel Vandusen along with Commander William McLain from Post 170 placed a new flagpole and American Flag on Rosemount Cemetery.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Eddie Able announce that the Post will be folding a flag while the 13 folds are explained at the Maury County Rotary Breakfast Club breakfast on May 26<\/strong>th<\/strong><\/sup>, 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adjutant Metheny announced that <\/strong>Matt<\/strong> Smith a Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist from the TN Job Center will be attending the June Meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaplain Kim Smith gave updates on the Memorial Day Events that will be held on May 29<\/strong>th<\/strong><\/sup>,2023 on the Square.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commander McShane reminded everyone of the upcoming Dept Convention to be held on June 17<\/strong>th<\/strong><\/sup> & 18<\/strong>th<\/strong><\/sup> in Murfreesboro along with the National Convention that will be held August 25<\/strong>th<\/strong><\/sup> through 31<\/strong>st<\/strong><\/sup> in Charlotte NC.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legion Riders will be meeting at the Memorial Building the following Monday after the Legion meeting each month at 6:00 pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
