May 2025 Minutes

Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 met on May 6th, 2025. Commander Diane Burgess called the meeting to order at 6:40 pm. There were 31 members present.
Chaplain Kim Smith offered the opening prayer.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Adjutant Steve Metheny read minutes from April 1st, 2025; they were approved as read.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Finance Officer Jeff Parks submitted the financial report, and it was made part of these minutes by attachment.
NEW MEMBER OR GUEST: Guest 7th District Commander Vincent Cuevas, ROTC Cadets Maxwell Wright from Spring Hill High School and Lily Gaddes from Columbia Central High School and their families. Delorean Williams a U.S.A. Veteran.
Guest Speaker: 7th District Commander Vincent Spoke on the importance of building a Post and the tribulations that come along with recruiting younger members.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Baseball Report: None
Veterans Services: Service Officer Dan Pullen was not present.
MEMBERSHIP: Adjutant Steven Metheny gave the membership report. The post 19 membership quota for 2025 is 388, 345 have paid, still need 43, the post stands at 89%.
SICK CALL: Post members on sick call are Robert P. Norman, Jimmy Hill, William T. Wall, Archie Steen Jr., Larry Jones, Oscar Crouch, Ray Dye and Jimmy Rogers, Bill Ray, George Jones. Charles Dilahay, Calvin Cheek & Danny Staggs, Art Ankrum, Bobby Damato.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Post Elections Nominations for 2025-2026 were taken and the following new officers were voted in by the membership.

NEW BUSINESS: Adjutant Metheny spoke on the upcoming State Convention and the Newly Elected Commander and Vice Commander will not be able to attend due to prior engagements scheduled. Newly Elected Veteran Service officer will be attending the convention. Adjutant Metheny requested that the Post will reimburse VSO Bowshier’s expenses for attending the convention. A motion was made for the reimbursement, seconded and passed with a unanimous vote of the membership.
GOOD FOR THE LEGION: Kim Smith and Yve Browshier were recognized for their completions of American Legion Courses. Chaplain Kim Smith for completing the Chaplain’s course and VSO Bowshier for completing the Service Officers course.
Past Commander Eddie Ables investigated a possible Veteran’s Day event to be held at the 4-H Club with a possible breakfast or a lunch available for Maury County Veterans and their families. Commander Nuelander may set up a committee in to get things going. He also spoke on the Senior American Legion Baseball players are having to pay out in order to represent the Post. A possibility of the Post using left over money from the budget to help offset the cost these players are having to spend.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Chaplain Kim Smith Announced that Blood Assurance will be holding a blood drive at the Memorial Building on 5/14/2025 from 10:00 am to 5 pm. There will be a competition between branches of service as to who can donate the most blood.
TN. Department Conference to be held June 14th & 15th. Registration forms are available from Adjutant Metheny. Members must be registered by May 12th, 2025.
July 12th 10 am to 2 pm, Pulaski Post 60 in will be hosting an American Legion Basic Training Class.
There being no further business, Commander Diane Burgess adjourned the meeting at 7:40pm.
