Legion Post 19

Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 met on July 5th, 2023. Commander Gene McShane called the meeting to order at 6:33 pm. There were 29 members present.

Chaplain Kim Smith offered the opening prayer.

READING OF THE MINUTES: Adjutant Steve Metheny read minutes from the June 6th, 2023, meeting and they were approved as read.

FINANCIAL REPORT: Finance Officer Donny Walters submitted the financial report, and it was made part of these minutes by attachment.

NEW MEMBER OR GUEST: Andy Arnette (guest); New Members Jim Perry & Larry Nicholson; Joseph Goode transferred in from Post 2000

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Baseball Report: Donny Walters reported that American Legion Post 19’s baseball’s 4th of July tournament went well.

Post 19’s record stands at 17-3

Veterans Services: Jeff Parks reported that 15 food baskets were delivered last month for veterans.

MEMBERSHIP: Adjutant Steven Metheny gave the membership report. Post 19 membership quota for 2023 is 432, 385 paid, . Post stands at 89%.

SICK CALL:Post members on sick call are Don Richardson, Robert P. Norman, Jimmy Hill, William T. Wall,

Frank McBride, Wayne Roberts, Jimmy Lee, Archie Steen Jr. and Larry Jones, Oscar Crouch, Ray Dye and Jimmy Rogers, Bill Ray.

POST EVERLASTING: 06/29/2023 Garland Dean Hill a 15-year member

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Post Officers were sworn in by Judge Advocate Calvin Cheek.

NEW BUSINESS: None.

GOOD FOR THE LEGION: Commander Gene McShane handed out Certificate of Appreciation to Terry Locke and Legionnaire of the Year Award to Adjutant Steve Metheny.

6 members of Post 19 attended Spring Hill’s ROTC obstacle course dedication ceremony.

Past Commander Eddie Ables & Commander Gene McShane Spruced up the John Harlan Willis Memorial and placed a new American Flag at the site.

Charlie Morton and Gene McShane spoke on replacing the Gold Star sign due to the road construction being done.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Commander Chapman reminded everyone of the upcoming National Convention that will be held August 25th through 31st in Charlotte NC.

Legion Riders will be meeting at the Memorial Building the following Monday after the Legion meeting each month at 6:00 pm.

There being no further business, Commander Roger Chapman adjourned the meeting at 7:27 pm.
