Unit 19 May 2025 Minutes

The Herbert Griffin American Legion Auxiliary met May 6, 2025 at 6:30 PM with 7 officers and 2 members present. The meeting was conducted by President  Debbie Howell.

 The Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Preamble to the American Legion Auxiliary were recited. The opening prayer was given by Gail Gilliam.

The roll call of officers was given by Unit 19 Secretary Gail Gilliam.  The motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Beth McAdams and seconded by Charlotte Conners and carried on the floor.

Finance – Libby provided and explained the finances. A copy of her report is attached.

Americanism – Teresa Lyle reported that the essay winners and participants will soon receive certificates and prizes.  Eight essays were received from 3 schools. Two winners from Class II were selected and forwarded to Department Chair…. will need prize money only for Class II – 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Education- Charlotte made the motion to carry 2 trays of cookies to Riverside School faculty in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week. Judy Morton 2nd the motion and it carried.

Leadership – There was a vote on the slate of officers, Beth read the slate. Charlotte moved to elect, Judy 2nd and it carried. The officers for 2025 – 2026 will be:

President – Joanne Ring

Vice President – Jolene Thompson

Secretary – Teresa Lyle

Treasurer – Libby Moss

Chaplain – Gail Gilliam

Historian – Charlotte Conners

Sgt at Arms – Judy Morton

Membership – Beth reported that as of  May 6, 2025 there are 107 members that have renewed. The goal is 137.

Girls State – Beth reported the delegates are as follows:

Columbia Academy – Lillie Baker, Francie McDonald and Sarah Isenburg.

Culleoka – Lily Alred

Hampshire – Ansley Lovett

Mt. Pleasant – Kera Smithson, Olivia O’Neil, Kylie Wood

Santa Fe Unit School – Sophie Church and Brylie Blade

Spring Hill High School – Ashlynn Johnson, Brielle Weissman, Julie Thompson and Wren Maggard

Zion Academy – Carline Holden, Raigan Gardner

Constitution and By-Laws – The committee met at 5pm on  May 4th and discussed the Standing Rules reviewed Education, Girls State, Finances, Poppy and Veterans Affairs.  The modifications need to be approved.

The Auxiliary Emergency Fund collected $26.00.

Large Pot: Debbie Culberson missed by not being present.

Closing Prayer – Teresa gave the closing prayer

The meeting was closed by President Debbie Howell.

Next meeting will be June 3, 2025, with dinner at 6:00 PM and meeting to follow.
