Americanism: Teresa Lyle reported that she didn’t get the information out to schools this year for the essay contest. She read the mail-out information from the Department Chair requesting each unit to participate or plan activities that celebrate America’s 250th birthday. What can we get involved with?

Beth McAdams reported that six members met on Feb. 20th to fold pocket flags. They were able to assemble 4 dozen. We have plenty of supplies to complete more.

Community Service: Teresa Lyle was involved with a First Responders Appreciation lunch for Maury County emergency personnel, CPWS and Duck River employees and Emergency Management following the recent ice storm work. She also went to Ripley, MS to assist in disaster relief for 3 days feeding those with a team from South Gate Church of Christ. 

Joann Ring brought up an idea to get involved with through Dear Heart/You Matter. This program is lead by Linda Lester and works with the Maury County jail making boxes for inmates as they exit the system. They also give art supplies to the inmates. Jo Ann would like for us to get involved. She will get Linda to come speak to us soon.

Convention: State Convention is June 26-28th with workshops on Friday and other activities on Saturday and Sunday. Teresa Lyle motioned for the unit to donate $25 to Department for the goody bags to be given out. After discussion, Libby Moss upped the amount to $50 which was second by Debbie Howell. The motion carried. 

Constitution/Bylaws:

Education: Teresa Lyle, chair reported that half of the supplies collected by the unit were delivered to Santa Fe Unit School for their resource room. 

Fundraising:

Girls State: Charlotte Connors, chair reported that interviews were conducted at Battel Creek, Santa Fe, Mt. Pleasant and Zion. She thanked those that assisted her. Other schools are scheduled for March 10th and 13th. Letters have been sent to groups and businesses asking for assistance in sending girls this year. We want to send 15 girls at $500 each. Several other groups were suggested and letters will be sent. We may end up needing to use monies from our CD.

Gold Star/ Blue Star: 

Jr. Activities:

Leadership: March 28th is the Middle TN Spring Conference in Nashville. The cost is $15. Those planning on attending are Libby Moss, Jo Ann Ring, Charlotte Connors, and Jolene Thompson. Jolene has the unit door prize. 

Election of new officers is coming soon. Think about how you can serve the unit.

Legislative:

Membership: Beth McAdams reported that we currently have 84 members paid, which is 

76.36 % of our goal. We need 26 to reach goal and 16 to remain in the Large category.

Suggestions to get new members – invite veterans and their spouses from your church in order to recruit. We will also use the Mule Day Auctioneers Contest to recruit. Another suggestion would be to look into going to First Friday downtown to get our name out and to recruit.Jolene Thompson will get the application process started. We could pass out poppies, flags, or maybe sell some quilts.

Beth also reported that Joan Aydelotte, a member since 1999 passed away on 2/7/2026. She last paid her dues in 2024.

Music: The Star Spangled Banner was played. Today is the 95th anniversary of this song being adopted as the National Anthem.

Poppy: The unit will pass out poppies at the Mule Day Auctioneers Contest on April 10th. More information to come at the April meeting. This will be supporting the Breakfast Rotary since they help us with Girls State.

VA & R: On March 7th, the quilters will be awarding quilts at the Vet2Vet Banquet. 

Announcements:

1) March 12th – Trivia Night fundraiser for Breakfast Rotary at the Memorial Building. It cost $30 to play plus you get BBQ.
