September 2023 Minutes
Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 met on September 5th, 2023. Commander Roger Chapman called the meeting to order at 6:38 pm. There were 32 members present.
Chaplain Kim Smith offered the opening prayer.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Adjutant Steve Metheny read minutes from the August 1st, 2023, meeting and they were approved as read.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Finance Officer Donny Walters submitted the financial report, and it was made part of these minutes by attachment.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Baseball Report: Donny Walters reported that American Legion Post 19’Cyclones won one game in N.C. and lost the next 2.
Veterans Services: Service Officer Jeff Parks was not present; Financial Officer Donny Walters gave the report.
Post 19 along with the James Patterson Memorial fund restocked the pantry with pooled funds. Veterans Service Officer
Parks picked up the supplies and delivered them to the pantry.
MEMBERSHIP: Adjutant Steven Metheny gave the membership report. Post 19 membership quota for 2024 is 410, 240 have paid, still need 170, the post stands at 59%.
SICK CALL: Post members on sick call are Don Richardson, Robert P. Norman, Jimmy Hill, William T. Wall,
Frank McBride, Wayne Roberts, Jimmy Lee, Archie Steen Jr. and Larry Jones, Oscar Crouch, Ray Dye and Jimmy Rogers, Bill Ray, George Jones. Charles Dilahay; Past Dept Commander Gary “Rooster” Drennon

GOOD FOR THE LEGION: Mike Conners gave us the highlights of he 104th National Convention and spoke on the Guest
Speakers who attended the convention.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: A post program about the American Legion Cruisers (ALC) was given out.
Obituary for Lance Cpl Joseph D Whaley was read. The Flagman’s Mission Continues has asked for volunteers to help set up and take down flags as a memorial to this fallen Marine.
Operation Stand down will be meeting at Puckett’s Thursday 9/7/2023 at 5:00 pm
Legion Riders’ next meeting will be held in the Memorial Building the following Monday after the Legion at 5:00 pm.
There being no further business, Commander Roger Chapman adjourned the meeting at 7:25 pm.
