November 2021 Minutes

Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 met on November 2nd, 2021.  Commander Eddie Ables called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. There were 28 members present.

 Chaplain Kim Smith offered the opening prayer.

READING OF THE MINUTES: Adjutant Metheny read the minutes from October 5th, 2021, meeting and they were approved as read.  

FINANCIAL REPORT: Finance Officer Donny Walters submitted the financial report, and it was made part of these minutes by attachment.

NEW MEMBERS AND GUESTS:  Marion Klinghard, AJ Klinghard and Charlie McDonald

Guest Speakers: Author Andrew Potter spoke on his book “ A Message to All From My Father” Books will be sold after the meeting in the lobby.

Bob Crigger spoke once again on the 3-day event for Veterans Display from 11/8/2021 to 11/10/2021 starting at 9:00 am to 6:00pm at the Macedonia Recreation Center.  A living Veterans display will take place on Veterans Day, need Veterans to participate.

Marsha Peterson: Spoke on her family’s service and the loss of family members.  Stated her mission is to show honor to all Veterans. Marsha is a volunteer at Cowboy Up and plans on delivering gift bags to over 100 Veterans

                 COMMITTEE REPORTS

Veterans Services: Roger Gilliam: Nothing to Report.

Cub Scout Report: Pam Minnehan: Not Present.  

HALL MANAGER: Diane Burgess reported American Red Cross collected 27 pints of blood from the blood drive held this month.  Rentals brought in $750.00

MEMBERSHIP: Adjutant Steve Metheny gave the membership report. Our new quota for 2022 is 460 members. 292 have paid.  We still need 168 and we stand at 63%

Make sure you have paid your dues for 2022 they are $50.00.

They can be paid either on-line, by mail or here at the post with Adjutant Metheny.  New membership begins July 1st .

SICK CALL: Post members on sick call are Don Richardson, Robert P. Norman, Jimmy Hill, William T. Wall,

UNFINISHED BUSINES: Sale of Post 19 real property to Columbia Power & Water Systems contract was signed on 10/29/2021.  Commander Ables requested an addendum to the contract asking for the American Legion Baseball to be able to continue use of the property.  CPWS denied the addendum due to it being a liability.  

NEW BUSINESS:  A dedication to James Patterson will be held at the Memorial Building on 11/11/2021.

Veterans’ food baskets for Christmas was discussed with a possibility of a 12/18/2021 delivery date and the possibility of serving breakfast prior for those delivering the baskets this year.

A motion was made by 3rd Vice Commander Diane Burgess to donate $200.00 to the Special Olympics, motion was seconded by First Vice Commander Gene McShane.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Financial Officer Donny Walters reminded all members must sign in and be present to receive the big pot or the small pot drawing prize.

Bob Stephenson announced the Legion Riders will be involved in a Benefit Ride for Aimee Deane who is battling cancer.  The event will be sponsored by the Marine Corps League. The benefit ride will begin at Post 19 on Saturday November the 6th with registration beginning at 0830.  A silent Auction will take place at Boondox Following the ride. 

The Legion Riders will meet on Monday November 8th at 6:00 pm.
