December 2021 Minutes

Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 met on December 7th, 2021.  First Vice Commander Gene McShane called the meeting to order at 6:40 pm in the absence of Commander Eddie Ables.  There were 33 members present.

 Chaplain Kim Smith offered the opening prayer.

READING OF THE MINUTES: Adjutant Metheny read the minutes from November 2nd, 2021, meeting and they were approved as read.  

FINANCIAL REPORT: Finance Officer Donny Walters submitted the financial report, and it was made part of these minutes by attachment.  Announced he club account would be closed the first of the year

NEW MEMBERS AND GUESTS: None

                COMMITTEE REPORTS

Veterans Services: Roger Gilliam: Nothing to Report.

Cub Scout Report: Pam Minnehan: Scouts raised $1500.00 on popcorn sales, looking forward to Christmas and will be on break until January.

HALL MANAGER: Diane Burgess reported American Red Cross collected 38 pints of blood from the blood drive held this month.  Rentals brought in $1250.00.   Club brought in $17.00

MEMBERSHIP: Adjutant Steve Metheny gave the membership report. Our new quota for 2022 is 460 members. 299 have paid.  We still need 161 and we stand at 65%

Make sure you have paid your dues for 2022 they are $50.00.

They can be paid either on-line, by mail or here at the post with Adjutant Metheny.  New membership begins July 1st .

SICK CALL: Post members on sick call are Don Richardson, Robert P. Norman, Jimmy Hill, William T. Wall,

 Donald Taylor, Frank McBride, and Wayne Roberts, Jimmy Lee, Archie Steen Jr. and Larry Jones, Gary Fisher and Larry Watts, Danny Staggs.

UNFINISHED BUSINES: American Legion Post 19 property has been sold.  Memorial Building has been booked for future Legion meetings for he first Tuesday of every month through 2022.  Maury County Rotary has offered to share their climate-controlled storage space for Post 19 items. The tank will be going to either the VFW or back to Columbia Academy.  Food baskets will be handed out on 12/18/2021.  Roger Gilliam volunteered to serve breakfast beginning at 8:00 am for anyone coming to deliver baskets.

NEW BUSINESS: Executive Committee will be looking for a financial advisor for the best use of the money from the property sale.

A motion was made by Financial Officer Donny Walters for anyone in Post 19 who has paid their dues for 50 consecutive years, that Post 19 would make them life members and pay their dues.  Service Officer Roger Gilliam 2nd the motion and the motion carried.  

A motion was made by Adjutant Steve Metheny to donate $250.00 to Maury County
