Auxiliary March 2024
The Herbert Griffin American Legion Auxiliary met on March 5, 2024 at 6:30p.m. with 6 officers and 3 members present.
The minutes were prepared and read by Secretary Gail Gilliam. A motion was made by Judy Morton and seconded by Beth McAdams to accept the minutes as read and was carried on the floor.
The Treasure’s report was prepared and presented by Treasurer Libby Moss. The report was adjusted by Libby for the $2000.00 that the Unit donated to the Quilts of Valor in February. Judy Morton made the motion and seconded by Beth McAdams to accept Libby’s report and it carried on the floor.
Bills for Presentation: One bill presented by Charlotte Connors for $35.00 for the Mid-Winter Charity Auction.
REPORTS –
Membership: Chairman Beth McAdams reported 130 members have paid, 32 members need to pay. Unit goal is 162.
Girls State: Co chairman Beth McAdams reported 13 girls from Maury County schools will attend this year. Beth will be organizing interviews with the girls as follows: March 6, 8, 12, and 13. Beth also handed out monetary sponsor’s letter for the girls fees.
Americanism: Chairman Teresa Lyle reported she did not receive very many schools that were interested in
participation of the Americanism Essay Contest. Columbia Academy Spring Hill campus turned in 12 essays.
Education: Chairman Teresa Lyle reported she had delivered our 10 for 10 items to Mt. Pleasant Elementary. Pictures of this were on the Unit Facebook.
Gold Star: Chairman Debbie Howell sent one birthday card.
Auxiliary Emergency Fund: Chairman Libby Moss collected $15.00.
Chaplain: Chaplain Judy Morton reported that member Susan Keene had passed. Judy sent Thing of You cards to Sara Carpenter and Claire Carpenter Vann.
Leadership: Chairman Debbie Howell reported the spring Leadership Meeting will be held Saturday April 13th Post 82.
Unit 19 members going will be: Libby, Charlotte and Gail.
Poppy: There was good discussion about promoting the Poppy drive. At this time Unit 19 has no Poppy Queen.
Old Business: Gail Gilliam reported she had sent a Thank You note to Post 19 for their generous donation to Unit 19.
New Business: Charlotte reported sent to Department Unit 19 nomination for Libby Moss as 7th District President.
The large pot was lost by Diane Burgess not present. Next month it will be $100.00.
After the prayer for peace by Judy Morton, President Debbie Howell closed the meeting. Next meeting will be April 2, 2024 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:00 p.m.
