Auxiliary February 2025 Minutes
Unit 19 February 2025 Minutes
The Herbert Griffin American Legion Auxiliary met February 4, 2025 at 6:30
PM with 7 officers and 3 members present. The meeting was conducted by
President Debbie Howell.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Preamble to the
American Legion Auxiliary were recited. The opening prayer was given by
Gail Gilliam.
The roll call of officers was given by Unit 19 Secretary Gail Gilliam. The
motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Judy Morton and
seconded by Beth McAdams and carried on the floor.
Finance – Libby passed out copies of her finance report. Judy Morton
moved that it be accepted, 2nd by Jolene and passed.
Children/Youth – No Report
Leadership – June 14th and 15th in Murfreesboro. Nominations for Officers
as next meeting.
Education – Teresa Lyle reported that the Americanism Essay Contest
theme will be “What does America the Beautiful mean to me (regarding
veterans and our military)?” Jack Cobb, Communication/PR Specialist of
Maury County Schools will send this information as well as info about the
Vera Gray scholarship to the schools.
Membership – Beth reported that as of February 4,2025 there are 99
members that have renewed. The goal is 138. Two members recently
deceased Paulette Brown and Anita Joe Foster. Unit will need to drape the
charter soon.
VAVR – Libby received a thank you note from CSCC for our $500.00
Scholarship. Joyce Johnson reported that the quilts of Valor tax exemption
needs to be renewed. Bill McFalls received a QOV at his home on
December 23, 2024.
Libby reported that $100.00 donations were sent to the following:
Chapel of 4 Chaplains
Blue Knights of Culleoka
ROTC – Spring Hill
Jr Navy ROTC – CHS
POW/MIA
Unit 19 will provide a birthday cake for the Legion’s 106th birthday.
Girls State – Beth reported that she received an email from Kathy Isaacson
(Director of VGS) on January 7th. Kathy informed us that 15 spaces across
8 high schools in Maury County have been reserved.
The schools are as follows:
Columbia Academy – 2
Columbia Central – 2
Culleoka – 2
Mt. Pleasant – 2
Santa Fe Unit School – 1
Spring Hill High School – 2
Zion Academy – 3
Kathy stated that spaces can be moved around or more added if needed.
Registration is now open.
Libby reported that she received a $3,000.00 check for VGS from Jennie
Southhall Trust.
Bills for Presentation – None
Poppy – Jolene Thompson has contacted Kroger in Columbia for May 23 rd
and Kroger in Spring Hill for May 26th.
Gold Star – No report.
Constitution and By-Laws – Beth reported that we need to meet before the
March meeting to review the Constitution and By-Laws. How many can be
here at 5:15 PM to meet?
The Auxiliary Emergency Fund collected $14.00.
Large Pot: Rebecca Moon missed by not being present.
Closing Prayer – Gail gave the closing prayer
The meeting was closed by President Debbie Howell.
Next meeting will be March 4, 2025, with dinner at 6:00 PM and meeting to
follow.
